Acclaimed Irish novelist, biographer and essayist Colm Toibin is giving a free lecture at SMU tonight (March 14), 7:30pm in the McNally? Auditorium, titled, "The Reverse Side of the Picture: How to make Fiction from Truth." Toibin's "fictional portrait" of Henry James, The Master was shortlisted for the Booker Prize.I haven't read The Master yet, but I will! His novel Story of the Night is on Triangle Publishing's list of the 100 Best Gay Novels and deservedly, it's superb!. I'd also highly recommend The Blackwater Lightship, a terrific novel about AIDS and queer life in an Irish Catholic family. It's not often that Halifax plays host to a Queer artist/thinker of such international renown. I strongly recommend getting a jumpo on St. Patrick's Day by checking this out! - Hugo Dann, Chair Halifax Pride
