Proclamation and Flag Raising at Grand Parade Square, in front of Halifax City Hall. Come to Halifax’s historic Grand Parade for this moving salute to the contributions made by Nova Scotia’s LGBT citizens. A reception hosted by His Worship, HRM Mayor Peter J. Kelly follows in Halifax City Hall. Admission: Free

Artsy Fartsy: Queer Youth Art Show sponsored by the Nova Scotia Cultural Division and FRED Salon Cafe and Gallery (2606 Agricola St). This is an exciting initiative co-sponsored by Halifax Pride and The Youth Project. Workshops in screen printing, pottery, musical theatre and songwriting will take place through July. Gala launch of these works at Fred Salon Café and Gallery. Admission: Free

QUEER ACTS: Halifax Pride’s First Queer Theatre Festival Obaberima - Written and performed by Ghanaian-born, Toronto-based actor, Tawiah M'carthy and directed by Evalyn Parry (Clean Irene & Dirty Maxine), Obaberima is a retrospective of a young boy and her coming of age between worlds; gender, sexuality and race. Obaberima was developed through Buddies In Bad Times Theatre's Young Creators' Unit and presented as part of the 2009 Rhubarb Festival. Presented on a Double-Bill with Very Secret Ceremony at The Bus Stop Theatre, 7:00 pm July 20-22. $15 Regular, $10 Students, Seniors and Underwaged.
Very Secret Ceremony - Convinced that their worlds are coming to an end, a baseball champ, a prom queen and a drag queen rendezvous at their old high school to celebrate past glories, mourn past mistakes, and pave the way for whatever new world is dawning. Created by Zuppa Theatre Co. in collaboration with Verve Mwendo Dance. Starring Susan Leblanc-Crawford, Ben Stone and Stewart Legere. Directed by Alex McLean?. I Was Barbie - It’s opening night of Toronto Fashion Week and Barbie’s 50th birthday party. Find out what happened when transsexual celeb Nina Arsenault, someone known for having massive amounts of cosmetic surgery, got hired to represent a doll who’s accused of fucking up the body images of millions of little girls. I Was Barbie comes to Queer Acts after sold out performances and standing ovations at the We’re Funny That Way Comedy Festival and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre’s 2009 Pride Festival. Created and performed by Nina Arsenault. Presented at The Bus Stop Theatre, July 20, 21 and 23. $15 Regular, $10 Students, Seniors and Underwaged.

A tribute to the music of QUEEN at the Music Room (6181 Lady Hammond Road) - Angels & Heroes Theatre is excited to be back with their Third Annual Pride Tribute. This not-to-be missed tribute will be honoring the legend of Freddie Mercury and Queen! Featuring performances by established and on-the-rise Halifax musicians including RyanMacGrath, RichieWilcox, Stewart Legere and more.
