Notice of motion

To all members and friends of Safe Harbour:

Please be advised that the Board of Directors of Safe Harbour will be introducing and recommending acceptance of the following resolution at the Annual General Meeting of the congregation to be held on April 3, 2011.

• Whereas, Safe Harbour Metropolitan Community Church, Halifax (Safe Harbour) has not been able to grow as a healthy, vibrant church after two years of study, and the concerted efforts of church leadership to do so; and
• Whereas, Safe Harbour has demonstrated that it does not have the financial ability to support a fulltime pastor at a reasonable, living salary; therefore,
• be it RESOLVED, that Safe Harbour should, in an orderly fashion, discontinue operations.

As some of you know, it is with deep regret that the Board of Safe Harbour has accepted Rev. Paty’s resignation as our pastor and she will be leaving Halifax after Easter Sunday.

It is with further regret that the Board of Directors is making the above recommendation. Unfortunately, with the departure of Rev. Paty and our dire financial position there seems to be little alternative left to us at this point. While over the past three (3) years the number of people attending regular services has increased, our offering receipts have been decreasing. For example:

During that time we were not able to maintain our target of $500 per week. In order to support a pastor at a reasonable living wage we would require about $1,200 per week.

Given the above reality, the Board does not think it is reasonable to believe that we are able to sustain Safe Harbour as a vibrant presence in our community.
