Rev. Brent Hawkes, the openly gay pastor who performed the first same-sex marriages in Canada, has been charged with sexually assaulting a male in Kentville 40-odd years ago.
Lawyers Doug Elliott and Bruce Walker will speak on how Canada's Criminal Code in the 1970s, and in the present, has influenced the way charges have been handled in cases like the upcoming Brent Hawkes case.
For more information on Rev. Brent Hawkes’ charges, see the recent Wayves article: http://www.wayves.ca/node/283
Where: Northwood Penthouse, 2615 Northwood Terrace. This event is hosted by the Elderberries, the LGBT Elders Social & Activism group. As usual, this will be followed by a pot luck social; bring something you like to make and eat. Admission is free.
