SmuOutreachSociety

History

2002-2005

As of the 2002-2003 academic year the Saint Mary's University outReach society was delisted from society status by the Saint Mary's University Student Assocation for not filing proper society paper-work and violating constitutional requirements. The society existed unofficially with the Saint Mary's University Drama Society (SMUDS) for the following academic year (2003-2004), but disbanded entirely for the 2004-2005 academic year.

Currently there is a movement to create a queer positive space within Saint Mary's University and the stearing committee will be holding various events in assocation with the Saint Mary's University Womens Center throughout the year. From Feb 13th to the 19th of the 2004-2005 academic year the committee threw a mini-pride week on campus raising awareness for the need and gathered well over 300 signatures in support for a queer-positive space on campus.

DalOUT welcomes students from all Universities including SMU. As an intrim solution, students are encouraged to look at the services provided by DalOUT.

For students having troubles dealing with their sexuality or requiring counselling, Counselling Services at Saint Mary's University provides counselling services for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered students.
