10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
OutFest Theatre Festival at BusStopTheatre
10:30 to 11:30 a.m. - Deeper Falling in love is confusing at the best of times -- and when you’re trying to navigate it as a gay woman, it can feel downright impossible. But sometimes, you just have to take the plunge. Told through a series of flashbacks and old letters, ’Deeper’ takes us to an underwater world full of life, love, and loss; guided by three queer women in mid-80s and 90s Newfoundland.
Noon to 12:45 p.m. - Can You Remember How We Got Here is a show about growing up—the kind of growing up that never stops. It’s about tennis courts, and Halloween, and a little red and yellow plastic car whose wheels rusted in the garden shed last winter. It’s about bad sex and good love and bruises and wondering what words we would have for each other, if we weren’t here, in this place, at this time. It’s about imagining queer utopia and finding yourself halfway there.
1 to 1:45 p.m. - A Beginner’s Guide to the Night Sky, a practical observational astronomy class that moves through music, memory, and magic to teach us about what we can see from our tiny place in the universe, while gently exploring the ways that love and grief are intertwined.
2:30 to 4 p.m. - Skylark Song: When Mikael receives a phone call from his estranged father back in the Ukrainian settlement of Shellmouth Valley, Manitoba, his diasporic history intrudes on his budding relationship with boyfriend Dan and his process of finding roots on the East Coast of Canada. Caught within a resultant depressive spiral, Mikael butts heads with the stodgily masculine Polish man in the adjacent condominium unit, Andrzej, who is stuck on the opposite end of a familial diaspora. Through recognition of mirrored trauma rooted within the ongoing Eastern European unrest in Canada and abroad, the two men grow to find queer comfort in each other’s well-worn arms, re-finding joy in their enmeshed unsettlements.
