Led by experienced Community Protection Facilitator, and Head of Security at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Aidan McKendrick!
Aidan (He/Him) is a first generation Canadian and part of the disabled queer community. Growing up in a small southern Ontario community, he witnessed the effects of poverty and addiction firsthand. He studied at Western University and Fanshawe College with a scholarship to a joint specialized media program (Media Theory and Production).
Throughout his student and adult life, Aidan has dedicated himself to volunteering for various causes, including food banks, human rights movements, and community skill-building networks. Most notable would be his work with Food Not Bombs, from serving, fundraising, marshalling and leading; Food Not Bombs provided barrier-free food to folks in need. Through this volunteering and especially marshalling protests and food banks, he learned his love of community protection, utilizing de-escalation, comedy, and general kindness to folks of all walks of life.
This led him to a career in security in the queer village and currently as the head of security at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre (Toronto). Being the oldest and largest queer threatre in the world, Aidan leads the security team and teaches self defense classes for the queer community. He is actively working to create more programming for marginalized communities to learn to protect and care for themselves and others.
