See, this is the advantage of using open formats... if the instant messenger system that they're using were in an open format, those of us using non-windows OSes might have an easier time making use of 'em. The porting effort could be taken up off-site, by some highly motivated geeks and programmers. Besides, instant messengers are old hat, so open and well-complied standards make good business sense.
