From: Tara Clowes Subject: Donation (historical significance to Halifax Gay community) Date: September 27, 2022 at 21:38:05 ADT To: AtlanticCanadaElderberries@gmail.com Good evening, This may seem out of left field. Stay with me. I promise this is legitimate and with the best of intentions. My family folklore is that my grandfather, James Clowes from Dartmouth, NS, was not openly gay (married with children) and secretly ran the underground gay mens club in Halifax and / or Dartmouth throughout the 50's and 60's. The statue that adorned the front entrance of the club, after the club was closed, went into his personal effects, which has then passed down through my family. It currently resides in my father's house. My father is being moved to a nursing home and I am cleaning through his effects as his legal power of attorney. I'd love to return this little guy to the rightful community in which he belongs. I think he's had a paint job over the years. but he is otherwise in excellent condition. Is this something your group, or perhaps a member of your group, might be interested in? Let me know as I am seeking to finish distribution of items this week. Pickup would be in Lower Sackville.
