In September 2014, Journalist Allie Jaynes

did an oral history with Mary Ann Mancini with the intention of publishing 
it in the Halifax Rainbow Encyclopedia (H•R•E). As soon as they were done, 
Mary Ann decided she did not want to go ahead with the oral history project. 

Mary Ann passed away in 2019 and shortly after, Jaynes donated the 
recordings to the H•R•E.  Jaynes says: 
"She told me at the time that she just felt like 
she didn't want to make things about her and she didn't want to be in the 
spotlight by having her story recorded. I think that was the case... but 
she also talked about some pretty painful stuff in her childhood and I 
think that might have been part of it."
