In 1963, Quakers produced a book, ''Towards a Quaker View of Sex'' which said that homosexual affection could not be morally worse than that of heterosexuals. The conclusion was virtually unprecedented for the era, and still significantly more definitive than most religious organizations can manage half a century later. With time, the book's influence grew, and it arguably shaped decades of forward-thinking sexual policies for the Quakers, who formally adopted gay marriage as an aim in 2009. =Halifax Friends= Quakerism emphasizes that we all manifest the Divine. All very welcome. The Religious Society of Friends originally came into being as a Christian religion. Many Friends today define themselves as Christian. However, Friends do not have a creed.
