He held a decade-long tenure as a lawyer for the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and co-wrote, with RoydenTrainor and JohnYogis, '''Sexual Orientation And Canadian Law''' (1996){{http://www.youthproject.ns.ca/library/book/sexual-orientation-canadian-law-assessment-law-affecting-lesbian}}, a book on the evolution of gay rights in Canada. He was Chair and Founding Member of the [[MortonHouse|Morton Memorial AIDS Foundation]], and a volunteer with [[AIDSCoalition|AIDS Nova Scotia]], MortonHouse, and the [[PWACoalition|NSPWA Coalition]]. Most recently, he was a mediator/facilitator for the Community Justice Society, and a member of the Halifax Chief of Police’s Diversity Committee. Randy’s personal interests included gardening, cooking, art, travelling, good food and wine. Randy offered his home garden as one of the venues for the very first [[PrideCelebrations|Pride Week Garden Party]] in 2004, along with JohnYogis and RoyHall.
