Brenton Street Women's Centre

Before Forrest House. They had workshops there, that's where I met the first lesbian who I knew was one. I suppose she was speaking at a workshop. They had health and poetry writing workshops. It was *the* women's centre.

Like Forrest House, which came later, it was a relatively safe place for a woman to "come out," and potentially meet other lesbians or friendly straight women. I think it was still open in 1973, but otherwise I'm vague about the dates. The building is no longer there.
