Grant MacNeil

Grant was a teacher who contracted HIV and was blind for the last two years of his life. He died in 1994. He was a long-time board member of AIDS Nova Scotia.

Grant had applied for his partner, PaulBoulais, to receive widower pension benefits through the Nova Scotia Teachers Union and Nova Scotia Education Department but was denied.

Grant and WilsonHodder both filed similar compaints with the Human Rights Commission. Eventually it went to court and they won, and they were the first people to receive same-sex CPP benefits.
