Local Q history TikTok series @jcreighton1995 and podcast by Jakob Creighton

About the creator

pic Jakob Creighton is a performer and queer historian. He holds a B. Mus. from the Université de Moncton and a MA Performance (Musical Theatre) from Mountview Academy in London, UK.

He started researching queer Canadian history before the pandemic and ended up doing his Master's thesis on the Purges and the AIDS Crisis. Since January January, 2026, Jakob has been doing a series on social media called "Here, Queer & Maple Syrup" (the same title as his thesis) which take the form of short 1-minute queer history capsules. In March, 2026, he launched a longer form podcast with the same name.

Outside of his history work, Jakob has appeared on stage in Halifax with Saints Alive! Theatre Society, WhaleSong? Theatre, Opera Nova Scotia, among others. He originated two roles in new musicals while living in the UK, including one that received multiple 5-star reviews at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August 2025. Jakob has appeared in the third season of Diggstown and, most notably, in the first season of Sullivan's Crossing. He is also currently developing a scripted feature based on a key event from queer Canadian history.
