Board Elections
Board elections opened with confirmation votes for two appointed directors. NivieSingh? and GeorgieDudka? were both approved to continue serving as directors for one year after the board appointed them to fill vacated positions.
NivieSingh? joined the board very close to the festival and adopted many responsibilities in a short time frame. They lead the Queer Perspectives Lunch Hour Panels during the festival and acted as the board representative on the Advocacy Committee. They previously volunteered with Pride Toronto before moving to Halifax, and currently also serve on the board of NSRAP.
GeorgieDudka? is a familiar figure at many of the festivals around Halifax. They work in event tech and have provided guidance to Halifax Pride in that regard. They have also worked to facilitate community outreach and engage in difficult conversations. Georgie was instrumental in launching Halifax Pride’s new committee structure to provide more opportunities for diverse input into the operation of the festival. Georgie currently spearheads the Programming Committee.
The society nominated four members for election to the board of directors and all were approved with a majority vote. MorganManzer, DylanWhite?, and MarkMonk will return to the board, and JennaMacNeil? will join for the first time.
Morgan served as the Halifax Pride chair following the 2016 AGM and has done tremendous work to rebuild and reshape the board and society in his term. He oversaw the hiring of Halifax Pride’s first fulltime employee and the restructuring of executive director and board responsibilities. Morgan is responsible for the governance portfolio, heads the Governance Committee, and manages the bylaws and legal business of the society. In 2017, Morgan also worked closely with the executive director to create and launch the Halifax Pride Partner Initiative Survey, the Community Events Funding Program, and the new committee structure.
Dylan returns to Halifax Pride to serve a third term on the board. Dylan has experience in leading many of Halifax Pride’s projects and events over the last four years. In 2016-2017, Dylan worked with the executive director to plan and execute the OUTBid fundraising auction in support of the Community Events Funding Program. Dylan also rebuilt the halifaxpride.com website in its entirety with a focus on easier navigation, better accessibility options, and a more content outlining the history, initiatives, and community commitments of Halifax Pride.
In 2016-2017, Mark served as the interim treasurer for the Halifax Pride Society. He has served on the board and volunteered for several years. He currently acts as a liaison between Halifax Pride and Fierté Canada Pride and InterPride?. Mark represents Halifax and Atlantic Canada at on these national and international boards.
Jenna, originally from Cape Breton, has recently moved back to the east coast after 10 years in Winnipeg, where they served as the marketing director on the board of Pride Winnipeg. Their professional background is in advertising and marketing, and they’re looking forward to contributing their skills to build on the ground work that was laid before us, and to continue to work towards equality for all members of our community.
