Here's a list of corporations and organizations who allegedly treat GayPeople badly:
- Big Brothers And Big Sisters -- Until July 2001 questioned sexual orientation in application forms for Big Brothers/Sisters.
- Canadian Blood Services -- Men who have had gay sex since 1977 are considered high-risk, because, you know, all GayPeople have AIDS.
- Royal Canadian Mounted Police -- known for their racism, intolerance, lack of due process, ignorance of charter rights, character assasination, and investigative wing whose tactics are even more ruthless than the folks they're working to stop. Of course, pigs are always evil. As recently as two years ago, it was widely reported that the RCMP asked prospective recruits of their sexual orientation. May 18, 2006: Chronicle Herald front-page article about two Mounties in Meteghan getting married in June, with pictures, and quotes that they don't experience any problems.
- Convergys - Receives millions of $$ in government funding, (allegedly) fires employee after asking for Pride Day off, then gives $1,000 to PrideFestival.
- Is there anything to the (alleged) firing story? CapnDan writes: The skeleton of the story is true, and the Pride sponsorship is true; I'm not sure if the person wasn't given their job back. After that incident the company did a lot in the direction of sensitivity. In any case, it's a story about a company learning that you can't kick the fags around. Whether they should be listed as a BadCompany or a MostImprovedCompany is a matter for debate. (as is much of the rest of the content of this page.) OfficerDick replies: There was a piece in the Herald about this in October 2003.
- There was a Human Rights Complaint filed. It did Receive "Official Complaint Status" and ALMOST went to a public tribunal. The case was settled to the satisfaction of both parties (meaning Convergys forked out some $ to settle it.) There is probably a confidentiality clause, but you can get the details in the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission's annual reports for 2004 & 2005
- Convergys Started to Donate money to teh Halifax Pride Commitee when the Human Rights complaint was filed, now, after the complaint has been settled, Convergys has ceased donating money to Halifax Gay Pride... Wonder whats up with that?
- If it such a bad place to work, then why is it filled with queers both male and female, it doesn't matter what the pay is, if my company hates queers then i wouldn't stay there. It's called PRIDE.
- Try telling that to the Pride Commitee of Halifax. They knew damned well why they were getting donations, but turned a blind eye ot it all.
- It's not the pride commitee that makes you work there, you do that of your own free will. What i'm saying is that if you care about your right to be gay and free, then why work for these people.
