Brenda Bryan

Activist and businesswoman. She had the Crepe Wagon, a made-over milktruck during the summer of 1979. She parked it on Spring Garden Road, where she sold crepes in front of the Halifax City Regional Library. She had company: The BananaMan, and the Chip Wagon -- "Bud the Spud" They parked one behind the other. People came over the lunch hour and sat on the stone wall to eat their lunches or ate on the lawn of the library.

More about the Crepe Wagon : I used to help out with the Crepe Wagon, in which I had also invested s few hundred dollars. Brenda managed a small apartment building at that time, and lived in the basement. I would go over in the evening. We would pour crepe batter into her four frying pans and cook crepes on her four-burner stove and stockpile them for the following day. The next day Brenda would drive the truck to her spot outside the library. She would re-heat the actual crepe and then fill it up with the customer's choice : strawberries with whipped cream or bananas with whipped cream (and cinnamon?) were two options. The truck was not in very good shape mechanically, and sometimes at the end of the day it refused to start. We had to leave it where it stood, and then we'd get a parking ticket. That's where the profits went. - Lynn Murphy
