Brenda J. Thompson (She/her)

Brenda is a 9th generation Nova Scotia settler with her family coming to this province as Hugeonauts in 1753.

Brenda has a B.A. in Women’s Studies from Mount Saint Vincent University and an MA in Sociology from Acadia University graduating.

She has written one fiction and five non fiction books, three of which have been finalists or won awards. She also writes corny plays.

Married to Kent Folks and the mother to Megan and Gwynneth

As of 2025, Brenda is currently running her own publishing company, Moose House Publications. 1

Single Mothers' Survival Guide

1988 and 1991 publication researched and written by Brenda with illustrations by Donnie Thompson, design, layout and editing by Anna-Marie Larsen. It was first published in 1988 by Pandora Press and then in 1991, republished by NSPIRG.
