JoAnn Noakes

1951 - February 22, 2022

JoAnn graduated from nursing school in 1972 and spent 18 months with the Sisters of Providence in Kingston, Ontario. She began nursing in Halifax in 1974 and married Robert Noakes in 1976. She nursed at the IWK and then the Victoria General Hospital until she retired. She was an avid cross-stitcher and helped many people with her sewing skills.

On December 6, 2003 she received her Diploma in Ministry from St FX U.1

JoAnn was a member of SafeHarbourChurch, and later, KoinoniaChurch. She'd say, “I’m not gay, I just like to be with gay people”

Surviving are her husband, Robert and children Robert, Kristin (Yanick) and Katelyn, her sister Laori and brother Roger. JoAnn was proud grandmother of Sabre. Aside from her parents she was predeceased by her brother Bernard.

Donations in memory of JoAnn may be made to Koinonia Baptist Church.

Rev. ElaineWalcott says, "She was a regular sponsor of the Darlene Young Memorial Dinners, cooking turkey and ham." Cecil says, "I'd see her there and she’d always give me a Christmas card."

"Her impact on my life was more on a personal level, playing a major role in integrating my own spirituality and sexuality. Her deep belief of equality was always part of her natural belief system." says friend GaryLeBlanc?.2
