"Bringing Together the United Church and the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community in Nova Scotia"
This project was coordinated by Rev. ShaunFryday?
In May, 2023 StAndrewsUnitedChurch received a Seeds of Hope Grant from the United Church of Canada Foundation, to explore our relationship with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, to begin a conversation with individuals and organizations that serve and support the community, and to explore how we can strengthen current relationships, build new relationships, and how United Churches in Nova Scotia can support the community and demonstrate true allyship. We believed that these conversations would provide valuable insight not only to Saint Andrew’s, but to all United Church in Nova Scotia that are interested in exploring their relationship with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and finding ways to build and strengthen those relationships.
On October 24, 2024, 42 members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community gathered in the hall at Saint Andrew’s, supported by 22 staff and volunteers, to share their stories in order for us to learn from each other.
The report is here. (pdf, 16 pages) The January 2, 2024 edition is marked "Draft" ; I'm not sure if there ever was another edition.
Do you know an organization which could benefit from a 2SLGBTQQ++ Community Center in Halifax? It's important that they send a rep to the 1-day conference on October 24th about it!
Do you think it's important that Halifax have a 2SLGBTQQ++ Community Center? You should come, too.
There'll be a free lunch.
On October 24, 2023, St Andrew's United Church will host a roundtable to discuss the needs of Nova Scotia’s queer community.
The forum is intended to be an exchange of ideas, with the goal of identifying community needs and maximizing support.
A community centre can't just be created without community input.
