My creative development began in The Canadian Maritimes – Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island.

A mixed racial background inspired me to explore the world through painting, dance, theatre and literature. For over 30 years have studied, danced and performed on stages throughout Canada and Europe – in a repertoire of both classical ballet and contemporary dance. 1980’s had a stop-over in Montreal, Quebec and eventually made the Sud-Ouest area my creative oasis,- opening an art centre- Galerie SEKAI/Centre Experimental d’Arts Actuels,- funded by Travail Quebec, Government Quebec Ministere de la Culture, and Couseil des Arts Communauté Urbaine de Montreal. For 10 years directed this endeavor exploring my own talents as well as presenting local and foreign artists. 2007 with dance and directing behind me, I plunged into my own creations and that season met silk artist, Graziella Malagoni. Aborting canvas, paperworks, and found objects, the last 6 years have found my artistic voice in painting silk creations that are presently verging towards fibre art.
LynnMurphy writes: When I knew him, Sekai used only that name. He came from a black family who were Maritimers, maybe Nova Scotians, maybe Prince Edward Islanders. One of his parents was in the military. He adopted the name Sekai after he became Nichiren Buddhist. If I ever knew his original name or surname, I have forgotten it. He was a dancer and a teacher of dance. I thought he was gay, but possibly not. He moved to Montreal.
There is a website for Creations Sekai, based in Montreal, and I think that is the same man. He says his creative development began in Nova Scotia and PEI, that he has been a dancer, and that he is of mixed race heritage. But this website has not been updated for a long time.1
