I remember parties at Emile's - at his tiny house on Lyle Street in Dartmouth in the shadow of the MacDonald? Bridge. I remember a place that was just preciously over-decorated in that classic Acadian "too much is never enough" style - lamps that were dripping with crystals, I think one that had oil droplets which glided down strings.
I remember Emile as extraordinarily furry - a solid black pelt from ears to ankles interrupted only by meticulous beard grooming at his neck line. I remember a smart, kind man who asked great questions and made you think more about the thing you just said.

Yes, we did work together for a few years. I will think back over that time and see what I recall. He was a very nice man.
I remember one winter he took up weight lifting. He had a rather slight build, but with all the weight lifting his waist got slimmer and his shoulders started to look like Superman's : he gained ten pounds of pure muscle, and looked as though he had lost twenty.
However, I will try to remember something more professional.
Emile Theriault was the first library support staff worker who served as president of the Nova Scotia Library Association (NSLA.)
In 2006, the NSLA established The Emile Theriault Library and Information Technology Award which recognizes the efforts of a library support staff member who has made a major contribution to their library community.
