Krista Snow

Long time activist and Halifax Pride boardmember. She was merchandise coordinator in 2011, co-chair in 2012, presided over the somewhat raucus Pride Annual General Meeting and was on the board and involved for many years after.

Krista was the first openly out Halifax city councillor1 for Waverley - Fall River - Beaverbank starting in 2003, says TheCoast's 2008 article about her.2

Also in 2012, she was on the team that created InterQ which was later renamed The Halifax LGBT Business Association.

Krista was a long time supporter of WayvesMagazine through advertising.

In the summer of 2024, when city councillor SamAustin came out as bi, he acknowledged her as "walking this route first."

In 2014, she faced a significant health crisis that profoundly altered the course of her life. Following surgery, Krista endured an induced coma and, in the years that followed, grappled with both physical and mental health struggles.

Krista made the decision to leave this world on her own terms through the MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) program. It is a testament to her enduring strength and autonomy that even in the face of immense difficulty, she chose to approach her final chapter with intention and dignity. This choice reflects the courage that defined her life, a life lived boldly and unapologetically. While Krista’s passing is an undeniable loss, her life is a celebration of love, adventure, and authenticity.3

Facebook says she studied at NSAC and was an insurance broker for Investors Group Wealth Management.

Krista leaves behind a community of friends and family who adored her, and a legacy of living life boldly and beautifully.

Her celebration of life will be held on her birthday, at St. John's United Church, Fall River, on January 31st at 1:00 pm. Following this, everyone is invited to gather at the Waverley Legion at 2:30 pm.

In her honour, we ask that you do what she would have wanted: share a funny story, raise a glass, throw a few swear words in for good measure, and remember that life is meant to be lived fully- just like she did.

Her official obituary, written by neighbour and friend Stephanie Strang, is here.

Here are online WayvesMagazine articles which mention her. There are many more in the paper editions of Wayves.
