Yarmouth Pride

About The Logo

The lighthouse is from the January 15, 1959 edition of the Yarmouth Light (1890-1966) newspaper. It represents the lives of past LGBTQ2S+ people of Yarmouth County, both born to and adopted, both hidden and known - their stories – their triumphs and their struggles; Even those people from communities the Yarmouth Light newspaper would sometimes ostracize, ridicule or ignore. Those of our community today are writing their stories at the Yarmouth Pride Lighthouse. The rainbow light beams are generated from the stories at the Yarmouth Pride Lighthouse and are the same as the Pride Flag (1978). The colours, as a group, stand for diversity but they each individually have meaning - Red for Life; Orange for Healing; Yellow for Sunlight; Green for Nature; Blue for Harmony/Peace; Purple for Spirit. The beams get wider as they travel out not because of any lens, but because more stories are added to the Lighthouse each day making the light stronger and so to our community.1
