Toujours Gay: An Afternoon With Chelsi Madonna & Holly Arsenault
Chelsi Madonna is a musician and director based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. After graduating with her Masters in Performance from UBC, Chelsi has sung across Canada, Italy, and the Czech Republic. During her singing endeavours, Chelsi started a YouTube? channel, documenting her life in vlogs. After moving to Toronto, she was recruited by MUCH Music to join their Digital Creator program where she helped produce videos, interviewed at the MMVAs, starred in commercials, and participated in on-stage events. She currently has a cross-channel following of over 80K. After finding her new home in Halifax, Chelsi decided to open her own music studio titled, “Chelsi Madonna School of Music.” Part of this endeavour is directing a queer choir that grew from 8 to 50 in just under one year. As a proud queer woman, she is dedicated to building community, performance practice, and creating a space that is inclusive and welcoming to all.
The piano has been Holly Arsenault‘s favourite toy since the ripe old age of 4 when she came upon the tired old upright at her grandmother’s house in Cape Breton. In the years since, she has traveled the globe as a pit musician, music director, sideman, soloist and leader of her own trio . These days, Holly lives and plays in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with forays into the wider world as opportunities and adventures beckon.

Amanda's Artists Talk with QueerCreativesSpace
Join us on Sunday, July 21st, from 4:30 to 6 pm, for Amanda’s (he/her)/ @amanda1.3.1.2 artist talk. This will be in person at 2482 Maynard St. Kjipuktuk/ Halifax. Masks are required but can be provided on-site. ASL interpretation will also be provided.
As a content warning, there will be mentions of sexual assault and police brutality shared in Amanda’s talk. There will be a low sensory room and stim toys on site, and folks are welcome to leave whenever they need to self-regulate.
Amanda is a 2Spirit artist from the Ts'il Kaz Koh and Kawakatoose nations and is a guest in the Unceeded Mi'kmak territory. In this artist talk, Amanda will be speaking about his artistic process and how it intersects with his recovery from her drawn-out trial through colonial courts after he was wrongfully arrested. The arrest was committed on the 18th of August 2021 while she was leaving a protest. This protest was standing in solidarity with the unhoused folks who were violently displaced from their encampments by Halifax Regional Municipality and Halifax Regional Police. Amanda was found innocent but endured two and a half years of harm, stress, and abuse through the colonial court system after being violently arrested and assaulted by police.
On a technical level, much of her work has been expressed through screen printing and mixed media methods. Through this work, he intersects issues of genocide being committed globally, abolition, accessible housing, police brutality, Indigenous Sovereignty, capitalism, colonialism, and the occupation of Indigenous land.
This event is a PWYC event, with any donations going towards queer Palestinian organizations. If your PWYC capacity is $0, please still come, as we don’t want this event to be financially inaccessible.
No pre-registration is required to attend.
Participants who express ideologies rooted in forms of oppression, such as zionism, racism, transphobia, white supremacy, pinkwashing, and all the other icky oppression mentalities will be asked to leave.
Access notes to the Wonder’neath space, where this event will take place, are in the provided link: https://tinyurl.com/bpa8xzky
