Gays and Lesbians At Dalhousie

By at least 1992, the group became known as the Bisexual, Gay and Lesbian Association of Dalhousie, abbreviated as B-GLAD, BGLAD, and BGLAD! at varying points.

History

January 11, 1980
Annual Meeting: The meeting was held in the Dalhousie Student Union Building, room 424. It included elections for all positions and publication of The Glad Rag, GLAD’s newsletter. Poet Ian Young did a reading. 3

An ad is placed in the Dalhousie Gazette:4
Gay? Lesbian? Bisexual? I am interested in working with other gay, lesbian or bisexual students to organize a club or society on campus. If you would. be interested in forming such a group please leave your name and number at the SUB Inquiry Desk, c/o Gays and Lesbians at Dalhousie (GLAD)

Poster Defacing - In 1989, GLAD posters put up around the Dal campus were taken down, had homophobic text added and were put back up. In the illustration here, the modified parts of the poster are coloured red; the original modifications are photocopied black and white.

Letter to the Editor: After GLAD was excluded from the student handbook, GLAD President JulieLewis? wrote a letter to the student paper's editor confirming the group continues to exist to serve gay and lesbian students at Dalhousie.5
1992
According to the Dalhousie Gazette (student paper), the group was now known as Bisexual, Gay and Lesbian Association of Dalhousie. AnthonyRoberts? was president and PeterEdwards? was the BGLAD representative on Dalhousie Student Union Council.6
