Mark worked as security for Rumours and had past experience in the military. While at Rumours, he would, (along with Gloria) make sure that no trouble came to us and if the military MPP's showed up, they would delay them a bit and alert us to help the military queer folks leave quietly & quickly through the side door. This was during the purge years where being queer and in the military meant you can be purged out. Remember Halifax was/is a military town so there were a few military or sailors who would find their way to Rumours. Mark also was very protective of me in those early days and make sure that one of my early and drunken jealous boyfriend would not be creating any drama when I was just being a social butterfly, hopping from one table to another, making new friends. When Mark was working security, we knew that we were safe inside Rumours.2
